What You’ll Need:

  • Hunter Douglas Generation 2 PowerView® Remote

  • Hunter Douglas motorized window coverings with PowerView® Motorization

  • A powered window treatment system with the PowerView® motor installed

  • Access to the user manual (helpful but not required)

Step 1: Preparing the Remote and Motorized Window Covering

  1. Ensure the Window Treatment is Installed and Powered On:

    • Verify that your motorized Hunter Douglas window covering is properly installed and powered on. For battery-powered shades, ensure the batteries are installed correctly and fully charged. For hardwired systems, confirm the motor is connected to power.

  2. PowerView® Motor Ready:

    • Make sure that your Hunter Douglas shades or blinds are equipped with PowerView® Motorization (Generation 2). If you aren’t sure, check your product’s specifications or the labels on the motor.

  3. Power on the Remote:

    • Ensure your PowerView® remote has fresh batteries and is powered on. If you are using a hub-based system (which connects to Wi-Fi for app control), make sure your hub is connected and powered on as well.

Step 2: Programming the Remote to the Motorized Window Treatment

  1. Enter the Remote Pairing Mode:

    • Activate Pairing Mode on the Remote:

      • On your Hunter Douglas PowerView® remote, press and hold the “Home” button (the button with a house icon) for 10 seconds until the remote’s LED flashes and stays on. This indicates the remote is now in programming mode.

  2. Activate the Pairing Mode on the Window Treatment:

    • Press the Program Button on the Motor:

      • Locate the “Program” button on the motor (typically found on the headrail of your window treatment).

      • Press and hold the Program button for 5-10 seconds until the motor flashes or responds, signaling that it is ready to pair with the remote.

      • If your window covering is hardwired, the motor should beep or flash to indicate it’s in pairing mode.

  3. Pair the Remote:

    • Now that both the remote and motor are in pairing mode, you will need to pair them. On the PowerView® remote, press and release the “Up” or “Down” button (whichever one you use to control your shades). You will typically press the “Up” button if you're working with a lift system.

    • LED Flashing: After pressing the button, the remote’s LED should blink and then remain solid. This confirms that the remote and window covering have successfully paired.

Step 3: Setting Limits (Up and Down Positions)

Setting the limits ensures your motorized window covering stops at the desired top (open) and bottom (closed) positions.

  1. Set the Upper (Open) Limit:

    • To set the upper limit, press and hold the “Up” button on your PowerView® remote. Hold the button until the shade reaches the desired top position.

    • Once it reaches the correct position, release the “Up” button. The motor will remember this position as the open limit.

  2. Set the Lower (Closed) Limit:

    • To set the lower limit, press and hold the “Down” button on your remote and let the shade lower to the fully closed position.

    • Once it reaches the desired position, release the button. The motor will register this as the closed limit.

  3. Save the Limits:

    • To save the positions, press the “Home” button again. This saves both the upper and lower limits to memory.

    • The motor may give a slight movement or beep to confirm the limits have been saved.

Step 4: Testing the System

Once the remote is paired and the limits are set, you should test the motorized window covering to ensure everything works smoothly.

  1. Test the Up/Down Function:

    • Press the “Up” button and confirm the shade raises to the desired top position.

    • Press the “Down” button and confirm the shade lowers to the desired closed position.

  2. Test Intermediate Positions:

    • If you’d like to set an intermediate position (for example, a “halfway” position), press and hold the “Up” or “Down” button until the shade reaches the desired spot. Release the button when the shade is in place.

Step 5: Grouping Shades (Optional)

If you have multiple shades or blinds and want to control them together using a single remote, you can group them as follows:

  1. Enter Grouping Mode:

    • On your PowerView® remote, press and hold the “Home” button for 10 seconds to enter the programming mode.

  2. Assign Shades to the Group:

    • Once in programming mode, press and hold the “Up” button for about 3 seconds to select the shades you want to group together.

    • The remote will respond by flashing or beeping once the shades have been added to the group.

  3. Control the Group:

    • After grouping, you can control all shades in the group using the “Up” and “Down” buttons on the remote.

Step 6: Troubleshooting

If you encounter any issues during the programming process, here are some common problems and their solutions:

Problem 1: The Motor Isn’t Responding

  • Possible Issue: The motor may not be in pairing mode.

    • Solution: Double-check that the motor is in programming mode. Press and hold the “Program” button for 5-10 seconds until it flashes or responds.

Problem 2: The Remote Won’t Pair with the Motor

  • Possible Issue: The remote might not be in pairing mode.

    • Solution: Make sure you pressed the “Home” button on the remote for 10 seconds until the LED flashes. Then proceed with pairing.

  • Possible Issue: The motor’s program button might not be functioning correctly.

    • Solution: Try pressing the motor’s Program button again, or refer to your motor’s manual for troubleshooting instructions.

Problem 3: The Limits Aren’t Setting Properly

  • Possible Issue: The remote might not be registering the limit positions.

    • Solution: Ensure you’re holding the “Up” or “Down” button long enough to fully move the shade to the desired position before releasing the button.

Problem 4: The Motor Makes No Sound When Pairing

  • Possible Issue: The motor’s battery might be too low.

    • Solution: Replace the battery in the motor or ensure it’s fully charged if using a rechargeable battery.

Problem 5: Remote LED Keeps Flashing Without Pairing

  • Possible Issue: The motor might not be in pairing mode or is out of range.

    • Solution: Move the remote closer to the motor and press the program button again. Ensure both devices are within range of each other and properly in pairing mode.

Step 7: Final Testing

  • After programming the remote, press the “Up” and “Down” buttons on the PowerView® remote to verify all positions and limits are correctly programmed.

  • You can also use your mobile app (if integrated with the PowerView® Hub) to control and adjust the settings.

Conclusion

Programming the Hunter Douglas Generation 2 PowerView® remote involves pairing the remote with the motor, setting the up/down limits, and optionally grouping shades. If you encounter problems, refer to the troubleshooting steps listed above or consult the user manual for additional guidance.

By following this guide, you should now have full control over your motorized window coverings, with customized settings for your convenience.
